According to our math...
Erik and I discovered from our first ultrasound that we were actually about a week pregnant when we completed our first Halfathon!! Now that we are at 18 weeks and almost half way through the pregnancy it seems like we just completed the race 3 weeks ago.  Our hope is to do another race after the baby is born… though we may sneak a very short one in on Thanksgiving Day (2 weeks before the...

Why are we doing this again?
Among the many questions Erik and I are asking ourselves as we head down I-10 towards Tampa! It is a beautiful day for a drive & The weather is to be beautiful tomorrow too. I’ll keep everyone posted with pictures along the way, please pray for our health, safety, & that we would grow even closer together in the Lord as we embark upon this adventure!

Race Week!
I just checked out the information for the Halfathon in De Soto St. Park this weekend!  COURSE MAP As I looked at this arial map I started to feel butterflies in my sotmache like I did as an athlete before a big game. My only consolation is that I have been training very hard with Erik and we can and WILL FINISH THIS RACE!  It has been a little less than a year since we decided to attempt this...

A new tool
This past week I have started using a new app on my iPhone that helps me keep track of my nutrition, calories, and progress! It is amazing how just being aware of what you are putting into your body can drastically change What you eat! If you need help keeping track of what you are eating or the amount of calories you are consuming I highly recommend MyNetDiary on any of your mobile devices that...

Stick with it through the plateau...
One of my goals for training for the Halfathon has been to make it easier on my joints by shedding some LBS. How many of us know that is not easy some times!? Over the last year God has been training in me a greater measure of the fruit of the spirit called Self-Control. “The fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, and Self- Control against such...

10 down 3.1 more to go
For some reason I felt way better after the 10 mile walk this weekend than the 9 mile walk last. I was surprised because it was only one more mile than last weekend but I was not as tight, my feet didn’t hurt as bad, and I actually had energy for the rest of the day! We are 5 Sundays away from the race and 3.1 miles away from reaching the distance of the Halfathon during our training.

Still a good remedy
We just finished our 5 miles in 1.15! That is about a 15 min. pace The Band-Aids and petroleum jelly worked awesome! So far we are on track for a great race :)

New shoes... New blisters!
I got some great new shoes for Christmas. The only unfortunate part about them is that they are giving me blisters on my heels! Fortunately, from my years of playing volleyball in collage I learned the secret of using petroleum jelly and a few strategically placed band aids to help you make it through a workout. I have a 5 miler today so I will have to let you know later if it works…

It's Official!
Erik and I are registered for our first ever 1/2 Marathon!! It didn’t exactly go as I had planned, however, I think it actually works out better.  So we decided we would wait to sign up for the Vera Bradley Seaside Marathon until after we did the Turkey Trot to see if we were really serious about trying to do a full half. Well, long story short we went to register for it and registration...

Turkey Trot Eve...
It is the Eve of the Turkey Trot. Erik and I did a fast 2 mile walk to loosen up the legs and get ready for tomorrow!! Yippeee. I have been fighting a cold this week too. I think the worst is behind me, but just in case I have a plan for stashing tissues in my clothing for emergencies!

5 Days till the Turkey Trot
I just wanted to encourage everyone to consider starting a new family tradition this Thanksgiving. They have several different length of races and the goal of all of them is to be a time for family and friends to get together!  There is a race for EVERYONE to participate in… check out their website

IT's Official...
Erik & I sent in out application to the Turkey Trot! Our half-way prep walk before the Seaside half marathon! The walk starts Thanksgiving morning at 7 a.m. in Tallahassee. I am used to waking up before the sun and working out but it might be a bit of a stretch for Erik, although, sometimes he is in his office working before the sun comes up so he may be fine. We’ll see.  I’m very...

Woot! Woot!
I would just like to say on the record that My Foot doesn’t hurt today and Erik and I walked 6 miles yesterday! Praise God! I would encourage you to pray to God and ask him to heal you if you are in need. The one who heals our bodies is able to forgive our sin too (Matt 9:6)!! The walk took us about 1 hr 45 min. We did wake up earlier to eat and let our bodies wake up a little bit more...

God healed my foot!
Yes!! It is true! God healed my foot. I am soooooo Excited. I have believed that God does healing miracles like this my whole life, but I have not seen many really all that often (probably because I haven’t been praying for them regularly).  This week started off in its usual way. I am a prayer missionary with the International House of Prayer Tallahassee. On Monday’s I lead the 6am...

Power Breakfast!
I promised to tell you if eating breakfast before we walk has great effect, and it did! I will say however, that we needed to wait a little bit longer until we rush out the door. I’m thinking at least an hour for digestion and way less water. The first 2.5 miles were a torment because our tummies were sloshy and the coffee kicked in… if you know what I mean!  So we are planning on...

The Big Walk...
After trying to walk 4 miles before eating breakfast and drinking very little water Erik and I decided that before we hit the pavement for 5 miles we would eat a breakfast of scrambled eggs, water, granola bar, and coffee. We learned our lesson from last time! We are getting ready to go so I will let you know if eating breakfast makes a difference… If any of my experienced running friends...

Seasons Change
I Love the FALL! It seems to put a little bit more pep in your step. When I wake up and smell the cool air and feel the breeze it is as if the Lord is giving me a personal invitation to go outside and walk. I find myself extra motivated to just be outside and doing my training is the perfect excuse.  Today Erik and I are going to go on a stroll to stretch out our legs and backs. After yesterday I...

4 Mile Mark
Saturdays are our Big walk days. We usually sleep until we wake up without an alarm and slowly work our way to the kitchen for breakfast and coffee. Then we debate if we are going to actually go walk which is always yes because though we don’t feel like it before we get outside, once we get going we are really glad we do.  Yesterday we hit the four mile mark in our training program. We were...

Injuries!
Injuries are part of the game… well at least I have heard that said before! I wish they didn’t have to be, but this last week while on one of my training walks I sprained my ankle! ehh. So far I have been laying off of it and doing the Ice, Elevation, and Advil routine.  Today I was feeling good so I did a little cardiovascular workout in my pool! That was really nice for a change....

Hydration Packs
So it has been a few weeks since we have started our training and it is becoming increasingly obvious that hydration is going to be our biggest challenge! So far our solutions for bringing enough water along have been comical at best!  If you see us training around the Southwood plantation lake you will notice a tall woman and a short man plugging along lugging those bulky aluminum water bottles...

Hot Topic
Que Chariots of Fire!! We have officially finished our first workout. After this training session we are going to have to work on Erik pacing himself. He only knows one speed… FAST! I think it is because he wants to finish and he thinks to himself …” the faster I go the faster it’s over!”. I also realized, like most people, the more passionately we feel about a...

A Fine Way to Start of Training
Today is the first day of scheduled workouts to train for the 1/2 Marathon, and how did I spend it? In bed all day with a 24 hour stomach bug! It was horrible. I have not been able to eat anything but Cheerioes and water all day. Erik has been so sweet checking on me and bringing me water. I was not able to train, and I am going to take it easy tomorrow to make sure I have kicked the bug!  Well,...

The Hot Tub Never Felt So Good...
Even though, my training does not officially start till next week, I feel confident that after what I did this weekend I will be able to walk 13.1 miles in March! I just got back in town from Tampa, FL where I spent eight hours a day on my feet coaching a Volleyball camp. It was a fun and fast camp because the girls worked really hard and had good attitudes. The eight hours went quickly. I...

2 miles
I have calculated the distance Erik and I usually walk to be 2 miles. It takes us about 45 minutes to walk these two miles over two VERY large hills. We estimate that walking this terrain is about the equivalent of walking 3 miles on a flat surface in 15 minutes (which the Seaside race will be).   So by my calculations, if we were to walk the event today it would take us roughly 3h 15m assuming...

An old familiar feeling...
Yesterday, as I was driving home from work, the reality that I had just decided to compete in a 1/2 Marathon overcame me! I pulled up to a stop light and began to get this anxious/excited feeling, ya know, the one where you feel your heart rate increase, butterflies begin flying around in your stomach, and if you are not careful you loose control of your breath.   As I sat there staring at the...

The Plan...
Ok, I am in no way a pro at this but here are my general goals for the 1/2 Marathon… The first thing to do is figure out what my pace is now. I am going to drive in my car and track the mileage my husband, Erik, and I walk 2x a week. Then, the next time we do the walk I will keep track of how long it takes us to walk X miles. Knowing my pace will tell me how far/close I am to being able to...
